The Shade Garden
- to be renovated in 2003

This garden is located inside the property's south wall. In contrast to the wildflower garden, plants in this garden will be shade tolerant exotics. Non-native species well suited to growing in the company of trees and shrubs will be featured. An informal garden, specimens of magnificent decorative-leaved hosta, heuchera, and pulmonaria will put on their show next to brightly colored drifts of astilbe, impatiens and begonias. This garden offers a wonderful educational opportunity for a growing number of gardeners faced with shady conditions in mature gardens. A sculptural focal point at the garden's far east end will draw visitors through the lush and restful planting under the branches of linden, ginkgo, birch and American beech.
