PAINE TRUSTEE IS HONORED

Board of Trustees member Ed Hasselkus, Emeritus Professor of Ornamental Horticulture at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, recently had a new daylily hybrid named in his honor. Roy Klehm, the owner of Song Sparrow Perennial Farms in Avalon, Wisconsin named one of his new crosses 'Gentle Ed' in honor of Dr. Hasselkus. Roy describes this variety as "Tetraploid, mid season bloom, 33" tall, 5 3/4 diameter blooms, new release for 2003. Precise white, wire-edged ruffling complements this rich, solid purple. Slightly fragrant blossoms. Green flower throat blends to yellow. Cold hard. Excellent for Wisconsin Gardens".

If you're interested in acquiring a plant of 'Gentle Ed', they're available from Song Sparrow Nursery for $22.95. To get a catalog call 1.800.533.3715 or log on to www.klehm.com. Roy will be donating a plant of 'Gentle Ed' for the Festival of Spring rare plant auction.

FAMILY DISCOVERY GALLERY

A community-based committee is now developing ideas for a "hands-on", "please touch" children's gallery; a space dedicated to our most valuable asset, kids! Educational displays, creative programing and, of course, exhibition space for their masterpieces, will involve each of the art disciplines.
